Backdrop Design for Lakme Fashion Week 2021
Founded in 1999, Lakmé Fashion Week is India’s largest bi-annual fashion event, jointly organized by Lakmé and RISE Worldwide.
The 2021 Phygital Edition saw a fusion of the digitally curated backdrops with live runway shows for an immersive experience.
As part of the Visual Design team with Gently Altered / Make Believe, I designed digital backdrops showcased on large LED screens, aligning with each designer’s creative vision.

SWEET REMINISCENCES
by Geisha Designs
Geisha Designs, by Shalini Jaikaria and Paras Bairoliya, blends tradition with contemporary style to create timeless luxury pieces.
For Lakmé Fashion Week 2021, their collection Sweet Reminiscences celebrated femininity under moonlight—pastels, shimmer, and soft shine evoking a night-sky elegance.
Designed to reflect a modern palace, the visuals highlighted serenity, craftsmanship, and nostalgia—bringing out the pastel tones and subtle details of the couture.
CAGED KALEIDOSCOPE
by Nirmooha
Founded by Prreeti Jaiin Nainutia, Nirmooha champions sustainable fashion rooted in Indian craftsmanship, blending ethnic and modern aesthetics.
Her Lakmé Fashion Week 2021 collection celebrated freedom—drawing parallels between caged birds and pandemic life. Retro-inspired separates carried feather prints and abstract grids to symbolize trapped optimism.
Set in open nature, the shoot contrasted bamboo cages with greenery, capturing both restriction and the song of freedom.
NEW BORN
by Samant Chauhan
Samant Chauhan, known for his conceptual designs inspired by architecture, history, and travel, created a collection that symbolizes the journey of overcoming inner darkness.
Featuring muted tones, floral patterns, and dramatic silhouettes with shimmer and flow, the garments celebrate renewal and self-discovery.
Set against a foggy forest backdrop with ghost trees, the visuals echo obscurity while highlighting the collection’s message of emerging into light like a “New Born.”
